Meet Shawna Sartain
DVM
Dr. Sartain recently joined Equine Surgery & Medicine in July, 2025 as a new graduate of Virginia- Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. Growing up in an area of Virginia deprived of large animal veterinarians, Shawna aspired as an adolescent to fulfill that shortage. After having her son in 2015, she decided to follow her dreams with the support of her family.
After graduation, Dr. Sartain decided to make the bold move to leave home and relocate to Kansas. She aims to grow into a competent equine practitioner who serves the local area, while also pursuing outside equine and ranch related hobbies. She further occupies her time with family, friends, learning new crafts, reading, and working hard to succeed in any new task.
Dr. Sartain is excited for the opportunity to practice equine medicine in Kansas while learning from the beloved doctors, Dr. Speer, Dr. Beard and the team of Equine Surgery & Medicine. In advance, she is grateful for the support and future endeavors that the surrounding community will bring her. She looks forward to meeting y’all.
